The Epic Nikon D850 Dr. E's top choice for epicness.
Welcome to my long-requested camera and gear guide! I provide a bit of my philosophy and insights herein! Some general advice: "Go Epic!"
Question: I want to get into EPIC DSLR landscape and portrait photography. What is the best camera?
Answer: The Sony a6000 kit with the 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses for undr $700 total! Or just buy it with one lens--the 16-50mm if you're mostly into landscapes, or the 55-210mm if you're ore into portraits! Shoot in RAW and finish in Lightroom--simply seek to exalt the beauty you felt when you captured your shot, and if you fall short, well, that's a great way to learn! Get online and try to figure out why you're falling short. Ask the photographers whose work you admire what you could do better. They'll point you in te right direction!
Epic Landscape Photography
Learn to see! Practice and train youself to recognize the bountiful opportunities by striving to capture epic landscapes and portraits with both lenses at all focal ranges. earn firsthand why portraits and headshots are oft shot at the longer end (70mm and above for FF or 50mm and above for crop sensors). Learn how landscape photographers oft shoot at apertures of 8 and above, and how they focus 1/3 into the scene, or on the most important element of the scene which must be sharp. Then learn how to focus-stack in Lightroom, ensuring sharpness at all distances! He who has begun is half done--begin today! Amazon has great deals:

The day will come when you seek the fine-art detail, resolution, bokeh, low-light capabilities, and superior image quality of a full-frame cameras such Nikon D850 or Sony A7RIII! You can also save a thousand dollars or so, and do quite well with the D810 or A7RII! Rememeber, while gear does matter, all the high-end cameras are vastly similar, and so it largely comes down to the photographer and their creative eye.
Principle #1: When you purchase cameras and lenses, you are buying a gift for the world. It is not like purchasing a big-screen TV, lighter tripod, nor a bigger laptop. Everyone who ever sees your photographs will enjoy your investment! Long story short, if it affects the photograph, it's generally worth the investment!
Before I encourage you purchase the high-end D850 or Sony A7RIII, let me save you a few hundred dollars by encouraging you to buy the sturdy aluminum Vanguard Tripods! Yes, it weighs more than the carbon-fiber tripods, but costs far less (saving you hundreds!), and is a bit more sturdy in wind gusts, which can save you a lot in camera/lens damage over time!

Principle#2: Having said that, photography is far more than gear. The most important thing is being there. Dozens of cameras will exalt an epic sunset, but no camera will make a dull sunset any better. So if you purchase high-end equipment, the onus is on you to get up and get out as early and often as possible! Don't let your gear grow dusty on the shelves!
Time goes by fast--as fast as light, in fact, and by freezing light, a camera freezes time. Photography is a blessed art as not only does it place one in the moment--the only thing we truly have--but it lets us capture, keep, and exalt the beauty of the moment.

I highly recommend the B+W or Heliopan Polarizing Filters for both landscapes and outdoor portraits! Learn to turn your polarizer so as to maximize the contrast and saturation of your landscapes and seascape, but beware of turning the sky too dark or black!
